THE RUTH MOTT FOUNDATION is a Flint-based endowed family foundation with an annual $10 million budget and assets of $200 million. The Foundation's mission is to advocate, stimulate, and support community vitality while guiding a core that provides a safe, attractive and healthy environment. THE RUTH MOTT FOUNDATION manages and operates programs at Applewood, the Mott family estate. Its three strategic initiatives address the areas of arts and culture, beautification, and health promotion. The staff composition includes a grants and administrative staff of fifteen people, an operations staff of eighteen, and a Board of Trustees comprised of three family and five non-family trustees.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have knowledge of, and concern for, Greater Flint's assets and problems or with communities of like urban demographics. Strong strategic visioning skills are critical to set strategic direction for the Foundation. The selected candidate must possess excellent communication & collaborative skills, including written, oral, and presentation skills. Knowledge of social media techniques and political astuteness working with Boards is essential for effective performance. This position requires a person who is mission-driven, self-directed, adaptable, and highly organized. This position requires a Master's Degree or equivalent along with eight to ten years of proven leadership experience in the areas of program development, administration, financial/budget management, and human resource management; with specific knowledge within the nonprofit sector and/or grant making foundations or philanthropic organizations. Candidates must have high standards of ethics, confidentiality and integrity, with sensitivity to cultural nuances and diversity in a multicultural environment.
Position Description:
This position reports to the Ruth Mott Foundation Chair & CEO and Board of Trustees. Responsibilities include working constructively with the Board, and converting vision into working programs with appropriate evaluation components. This position administers the daily operation of the Foundation, manages the award grants, monitors the program-related investments; develops and maintains relationships with applicants, grantees, fellow grant makers, the communication media, and public officials. Other responsibilities include assisting and resolving community problems and generating new ideas to solve pressing issues affecting the greater Flint community.
